England is a country known for its rich sporting heritage, with netball joining football, cricket, rugby, tennis and many more as important sports to this nation of passionate sporting fans.
In netball, England’s senior national team, the Vitality Roses, currently sit fourth in the World Netball World Rankings. 3 million people play netball every year in England, with successes on the global stage, including winning gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and silver at the 2023 Netball World Cup, continuing to inspire the nation to play, watch and grow the sport.

England finished in second place at the Netball World Youth Cup (NWYC) in 2009, 2005 and 1992, in what remains their best-ever finish at the tournament. In the most recent NWYC (2017), England took home a bronze medal with a squad who have gone on to make their mark on the global stage. 10 of the 12 2017 NWYC squad members have since received senior international caps, including current Vitality Roses captain Fran Williams, who captained the U21 squad to this bronze medal.
As well as being reigning U21 and U17 Netball Europe champions, at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, England took home a bronze medal.
Roses Pathway Head Coach Sonia Mkoloma has 123 senior international caps for England, and also represented England in the World Netball Youth Championship in 2000. She’ll return to the tournament in a different role, as Head Coach, this year. England’s domestic netball league, the Netball Super League has been relaunched in 2025 at the start of a journey to professionalise the sport in the country. Alongside this a new feeder league called the NXT Gen League has been established to nurture and develop the next generation of world class players. Players eligible for selection for England’s 2025 NWYC squad play for a variety of clubs across both the NXT Gen League and the NSL. Netball is the most played team sport for women in England, with 3 million people playing the sport every year.
