Australia and New Zealand Prepare to go Head-to-Head in Netball World Youth Cup Final for the Sixth Time

The Netball World Youth Cup 2025 (NWYC2025) comes to an end this Sunday, with Australia taking on the defending Champions New Zealand in the Final at 7pm GMT+2 live on NetballPass.

This is the sixth time the two teams have met in the NWYC2025 Final, with New Zealand winning three and Australia two so far.

Amelia Walmsley’s New Zealand side have the chance to make history becoming the first team to win three back-to-back NWYC’s if they win in Sunday’s final.

Speaking after their 49 – 51 Semi-Final win against England, Captain Walmsley expressed the relief of reaching the Final: “I started crying at the end of the game.

“I am just super proud of this team; we have worked so hard for two and a half to three years to get ourselves to this moment.”

Despite the pressure hanging over New Zealand to make history, Walmsley said her message to her team throughout has been consistent: “I actually have it tattooed on my body; ‘we write our own story’.

“To me that means it is not over yet, it is up to us now what we do to finish off this story that we have been working so hard for.”

Australia then went on to beat South Africa 67-36 in the second of the Semi-Finals, booking their place in their 7thNWYC Final.

Captain Sophie Casey was proud of her team’s performance and equally as confident heading into the Final, she said: “We are right where we wanted to be.

“We are in prime position, and we are looking forward to the Final.

Speaking on New Zealand’s chance to make history, Casey added: “The history doesn’t affect us as it’s a completely new team.

“We just need to approach it like any netball game, it is four fifteen-minute quarters and if we play our game, and the way we want to, we will get it done.”

Make sure you tune in to watch the Final live and on-demand on NetballPass this Sunday at 7pm GMT +2.
